On Friday 1st March, the Avocets were treated to an art day, courtesy from the Helen Foundation, with Mrs Lithgow from Dawlish Community College (D.C.C), an Art specialist as well as two returning students.
The theme of the day was around plastic waste and how we could raise awareness about what plastic we are using and how to REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE and RE-PURPOSE. We looked particularly at plastic in the sea (a topic close to my heart).
The children each developed a design around plastic waste and these were printed onto the material that had been brought in. These prints are then going to be made into a tepee and shown in the D.C.C Art exhibition, which anyone is able to attend. Once the exhibition has finished, the tepee will be returned to us here. I believe the exhibition is on April 3rd after school but please double check this with D.C.C if you would like to attend.
The children also had a go at creating some plastic art from old carrier bags, re-purposing the waste.
Many thanks to Mrs Lithgow and her two helpers for coming in. We all had a fantastic day and learnt many new skills with the art we created with your help. Thank you also to the parents/carers who sent in the white material for our printing. As always, your support is very much appreciated.
