New School Mosaic

Mosaic workshop

Once again Monica Lang has dedicated her time to Starcross Primary School to lead the making of a new school sign. Stanley Beck from Curlews, won the competition last term and it is his design that is being made.

Stanley’s design

The idea for this mosaic, is to make it out of used, recycled and some alternative materials. This will be a mosaic, with a difference! Children have been assisting Monica (and her friends Alma and Joanne) to place and cement the recycled tiles and materials to a paving slab. We hope that you will agree, they have all done a fantastic job! It is also lovely to hear the children claim the tiles that they have stuck down.

We would like to give a special thanks to Gilpin Scrap Metals from Newton Abbot, for their generous donation of car light reflectors and coloured wire and also to The Old Rydon in Kingsteignton, for saving bottle tops, all of which were used in the design.

The end result.

Once the mosaic is dry and placed in school we will upload another image. We were fortunate enough to be able to make another one which we will reveal in the next post!
