Sewing workshop in Oystercatchers

Posted on

This term we have celebrated our Antarctic topic by creating our own flags!

Oystercatchers were lucky to take part in a sewing workshop last week. We had a visit from Bridget, an artist, who helped us create some Antarctic-themed flags for the classroom. There were whales, seals, albatrosses, maps of Antarctica and many, many penguins! All the children had the chance to operate a sewing machine under the watchful eye of Bridget and some very kind volunteer helpers (some of whom had not touched a sewing machine in years!)

The children have all produced some amazing flags that even Captain Scott would have been proud to have on the back of his sledge.

The event was a Helen Foundation supported workshop facilitated by Daisi (Devon arts in schools initiative).
