The children in Avocet’s class have been looking at sound as part of their science unit this half term.
By experimenting with rice on top of a drum and the effect of banging and putting tuning forks in water, we discovered that sound is a vibration and travels in waves to our ears.
The children used paper straws to make panpipes to help us explain how you can change the pitch on an instrument.
The following week, in groups, the children planned and undertook a soundproofing experiment to find out what the best material is for soundproofing headphones. Each group chose the materials to test and the variables to ensure that the experiment was fair.
We found that the cotton wool was the best material for soundproofing!
We hope you enjoy the photos.
