Welcome to Sanderlings
 

In the first five years of your child’s life, they will develop physically, cognitively and emotionally at a faster rate than any other time. 

Toddlers are incredibly excited to engage with their learning. Here at Starcross Primary School, play is at the core of our Early Years curriculum. We provide a range of sensory & tactile experiences - as well as - exciting opportunities for your little one which will support them to meet their milestones. 

Our nursery class is called The Sanderlings and is very much part of our school. We welcome children aged 2-4 within The Sanderlings class. 

Our Sanderlings team is led by a fully qualified teacher, Mrs Pritchard, and consists of highly experienced and qualified staff. Our Early years team work incredibly hard to form strong relationships with all children and their families. This in turn leaves our families feeling secure in the knowledge that their children are happy and safe. 

About Us

We work closely with the Primary phase of Starcross Primary school. We are located in our own building on the school grounds.   

Sanderlings has a large open plan classroom space with a covered outdoor decking area. We also use the playground for lots of outdoor activities and we often go exploring in our wonderful Nature area. 

We take children from age 2 upwards, and we welcome them to start at any point during the term.   

Opening Times 

We are open Monday to Friday (Term time only) 

Morning session 9am – 12pm 

Afternoon session 12pm – 3pm 

Funding and Payments 

We offer both funded and paid-for sessions. 

The types of funding available are: 

• 2 year old funding (you will either receive a golden ticket or need to apply) 
• Early years Entitlement (15 hours) 
• 30 hours Extended Entitlement (you will need to apply) 

To apply for funding please visit www.childcarechoices.gov.uk  

Paid sessions are available, the charges for these are: 

• 2-year olds - £6 per hour 
• 3-year olds - £5.50 per hour  

All paid sessions are invoiced half termly and paid via Tax Credits or School Money. 

What will your child need for Preschool each day? 

Your child will need the following things in school every day. A bag can be left on your child’s peg. Please ensure that everything is clearly named and check periodically in case names have worn off! 
 

• A water bottle 
• A bag with spare clothes, wipes, nappies, nappy bags. 
• A coat 
• Lunch box – if your child is having a packed lunch 

Seesaw 

You can keep up to date with your child’s learning through the Seesaw app which allows us to include parents and carers in the learning process. It is a great way for us to communicate between home and school and for us to share photos and observations of what your child has been up to during their time at Preschool.
