Year 2 Curlews
Welcome to the Curlews class page!
Miss Hirst and Miss Patchett teach in our class, Mrs Stockham, works in our class too. Miss Hirst has been teaching in Year 2 for quite a while and she loves it!
In Curlews, we are very busy! We work hard, and we have fun. We help all the children to get ready for Key Stage 2, by becoming more independent, and more confident in making their own decisions.
In Year 2, the children develop their confidence and fluency in reading and writing, and use phonics to support them. We have daily Maths lessons, and we also have a '10 minute Maths' session most days, to help with understanding key facts.
At the end of the year, the children are assessed formally. We do this very gently, and we prepare the children in class, by building in some practise during group and whole class work, and then getting the children to ‘show off what you can do’.
We love seeing the progress the children make in all areas over the year, from their achievements in lessons, to their growing confidence and independence.
This term, many of our subjects are linked to our Rainforest theme. We are learning about plants and animals in Science, and an area of Brazil in Geography. We are also looking at artwork by Henri Rousseau, and developing our own rainforest artwork with printing techniques. We will also be exploring music and graphics in our Computing sessions. Our Literacy will include fiction and non-fiction texts, such as ‘Previously’ by Allan Ahlberg, which mixes up well known traditional tales in a clever way!
