Years 3 & 4 Oystercatchers
Welcome to Oystercatchers!
Mr Collett is class teacher with Miss Jackson covering for PPA. Feel free to chat to us at the classroom door at drop-off or pick-up times, or send an email in to admin@starcross-primary.devon.sch.uk if you have any questions.
Here are the things we will be learning about for the rest of the year:
This term’s topic is all about Britain in the Iron Age, and the Roman Invasion of Britain. We will learn about what life was like in Iron Age Britain 2000 years ago, how people lived, dressed, farmed and what their houses were like. We will learn the story of Boudicca, Queen of the Iceni tribe, and her resistance to the Romans. We will also learn about what the Romans did for us and how they changed life in Britain.
Tied in to this topic, our first writing unit will be a 1st person adventure story, writing from the point of view of a Roman slave who escapes their fate at the hands of the Romans. The writing project will be a non-fiction report about an aspect of Roman life. We are also going on a school trip around Exeter to have a look at the Roman artefacts (and everything else!) in the RAMM Museum, and also to have a guided tour and workshop in Exeter Cathedral, which was built on the site of a Roman settlement.
Our art this term will also tie in with our topic. We have started with portraits of Boudicca, and we will then be moving on to design and create mosaic pictures (including some computer-based mosaics).
Our PE for the term is Athletics, where we will look at different disciplines of running, throwing and jumping. Hopefully the Spring and Summer weather will be kind to us and we can get out onto the field!
Our Maths this term so far has focused on number facts and problem solving around the 2, 4 and 8 times tables. We will then be moving on to subtraction skills and finally working with fractions.
Next term, our topic will be all about dinosaurs, and the famous fossil hunter Mary Anning. This will also hopefully include a trip to Lyme Regis, to see where Mary lived and worked, and maybe even include a fossil-hunting trip to the beach… watch this space for more details! 😊
